How it all began….

Midway Baptist Church had it’s beginning on May 1, 1983 in the social hall of Midland Park Baptist Church, when fifty-five people gathered to organize a new church and call Rev. Billy Hill as their pastor Rev. Stafford Hebert and Midland Park Baptist Church voted to sponsor us in the Charleston Baptist Association, as a mission of their church.

We met at Midland Park’s social hall for a short period before moving to the Coastal Carolina Fairgrounds.  A small group of faithful, courageous Christians met for over a year, enduring extreme heat in the summer and extreme cold in the winter.  When the fair was in town we met at Midland Park and Bonnie Doone.  There was a wonderful pioneer spirit among our people as we sought God’s will and direction for His Church.

By the grace of God, we located 3.5 acres of land on Highway 176 in Goose Creek and began to build our church.  We broke ground on November 18, 1984.  While our building was being completed, we met at the Screven Baptist Association building in Summerville.

Our first worship service in our new building was held on June 1, 1985.  It was followed by a dinner and dedication service in celebration for all God had done for us.

Our new vision was for a much needed educational facility.  We acquired financing and completed construction.  We have come a long way by FAITH.  We continue to look to the Lord “from whence cometh our strength”.  We are trusting God to provide as we seek His will and follow the vision He gives us here at Midway.
